Known as "America's Hometown Hero," Jimmy Stewart is an American cultural icon who led a long and illustrious career as a film star, military hero, family man and world citizen. Born in Indiana, PA in 1908, Stewart went on to spend 70 years in Hollywood and make some of America's most memorable films, including Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Philadelphia Story, and It's A Wonderful Life.
Jimmy Stewart also achieved a prestigious military career. As a veteran of both World War II and the Vietnam War, Stewart rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the US Air Force Reserves.
The Jimmy Stewart Museum highlights Stewart's numerous accolades in film, radio, TV and military service. The Museum features many exhibits about Stewart's lengthy career, including displays, film presentations, gallery talks and a 1930's vintage movie theatre that showcases numerous film clips and career achievements of this monumental American icon. There is also a special exhibit that demonstrates the Stewart family's rich history in Western Pennsylvania.
